Support the Blanton

We Need Art—and You—Now More Than Ever

Like our community, the Blanton faces unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a nonprofit, the Blanton depends heavily on admissions, membership, donations, events, and other income to be able to pay for our programs and staff—so this closure significantly impacts us. We also know that when we reopen, it will be at a reduced capacity to allow for social distancing, therefore limiting admissions income for an additional, extended period. We have made substantial changes to our operating budget to try to mitigate this unprecedented situation, but are still facing a financial shortfall.

We have set-up the Blanton Together Fund to support our COVID-19 response plan, which includes:

  • Supporting our staff as they continue to contribute to the museum’s mission during these unusual times
  • Serving our community by developing new digital resources and teaching tools that enhance the educational experience of K-12 and university students, from anywhere they may be learning
  • Creating virtual programs and content for you and our public to enjoy from home
  • Continuing to build the museum’s robust program that you love and count on, for when we are eventually able to return to our full capacity

Gifts of any size will together help us get through these tough times and ensure the Blanton remains a pillar of our community, now and in the future.

Ongoing, annual support also remains vital, as the Blanton Together Fund is above and beyond our typical fundraising and membership. The generosity of museum friends is essential to the Blanton’s ongoing success and impacts every aspect of the museum, including:

  • Supporting thought-provoking programs and dynamic exhibitions featuring art from around the world
  • Enriching arts education for thousands of school children each year
  • Enhancing the educational and cultural experience of university students from across disciplines
  • Caring for the museum’s permanent collection, which is the largest in Central Texas

The Blanton’s Major Gift Circles, which begin at $10,000, recognize philanthropic individuals who provide vital support for the museum, from exhibitions to education programs, and from publications to conservation. Including the Blanton in your legacy plan is an important investment in the museum’s future and its commitment to excellence in the arts. Your future gift can provide unrestricted financial support for the museum or strengthen a specific area of interest, such as exhibitions, acquisitions, conservation, or education. As part of The University of Texas at Austin, planned gifts to the Blanton may be made through a range of options that can maximize benefits to you, your loved ones, and the museum.

Mari and James A. Michener Society

In honor of its namesakes, the Mari and James A. Michener Society recognizes donors who have provided for the Blanton through a planned gift or made a provision for the museum in their estate plans. Through their thoughtful generosity and foresight, these supporters play an important role in helping the museum reach new heights and have a lasting impact on generations of future students and visitors. Planned gift donors to the Blanton also are welcomed into the Texas Leadership Society at the university.

Please see this Michener Society overview for more details, including a listing of our current members.  If you already have arranged a planned gift to the museum or want to learn more, please contact director of development Anna Berns at

A wide range of corporate sponsorship opportunities are available for exhibitions and other programs. The Blanton can tailor a sponsorship package to best meet your company’s marketing needs and community impact priorities.

In 2020, the Austin corporate community also has the opportunity to become a sponsor of the Blanton Block Party, a free community festival that features live music, world class art, local food, and more. The fourth annual Block Party will take place on Saturday, March 28, 2020 and offers sponsors brand recognition, special access, and an exclusive Blanton experience. Click HERE to learn more about directly supporting the Blanton by participating in this popular event.

In addition, we invite you to save the date for the Blanton 2021 Gala — Saturday, February 6, 2021 — which is a fun and elegant evening that raises essential funds to support the museum. More information on table levels and sponsor benefits will be available soon.
